5 WAYS THE SUBCONSCIOUS MIND IS BLOCKING YOU FROM PERSONAL GROWTH (AND HOW TO OVERCOME THIS!)

Your subconscious is in control!

This sounds strange. But to understand how much our subconscious mind runs the show, (without us really being fully aware of it), we only need to remind ourselves of how hard it is to change habits using willpower alone. It's incredibly difficult, unless you have both parts of your mind (your conscious and subconscious), aligned for the new habit.

How does this work?

Your conscious mind is your willpower. When you decide you want to start going to the gym, (or change another lifestyle habit), you're using your conscious mind to make that decision. However if your subconscious mind is not also 'onboard', you will be trying to adopt this new habit without the most powerful part of your mind's support.

And this is why we often fail to keep up a new habit, even with great intentions and motivation at the start.

Your subconscious mind is like the operating system of your life. It quietly runs in the background, dictating your thoughts, emotions, and actions.

While it’s a powerful ally when programmed positively, it can also hold you back if it's filled with limiting beliefs, fears, or unhelpful patterns.

So, here are five ways your subconscious mind might be blocking your personal growth—and what you can do to harness its power to help, not hinder you:

➡️ 1. Fear of Change

Your subconscious loves familiarity. Even when your current situation is less than ideal, it may resist change simply because it feels safer sticking to what it knows.

What to Do: Start small. Reassure your subconscious by taking incremental steps toward change. Visualize your desired outcome regularly to make it feel familiar and achievable.

➡️ 2. Negative Self-Talk

Phrases like “I’m not good enough” or “I’ll never succeed” often stem from deeply rooted subconscious beliefs. These thoughts can sabotage your goals before you even begin.

What to Do: Practice mindfulness to catch negative self-talk. Replace it with positive affirmations (words are powerful), and repeat them daily to reprogram your subconscious mind.

➡️ 3. Unresolved Past Experiences

Old wounds, traumas, or unresolved emotions can anchor you to the past, making it difficult to grow into your future self.

What to Do: Consider therapy or RTT and hypnotherapy to heal past experiences and reframe them in a way that supports your growth.

➡️ 4. Fear of Failure

Your subconscious may equate failure with pain, embarrassment, or rejection, causing you to avoid taking risks that could lead to personal growth.

What to Do: Shift your perspective on failure. See it as a learning experience rather than a final destination. I like to think of it like this: It's either that you're winning (succeeding) or you're learning and developing (and either way, that is winning in my eyes). Celebrate small wins to build confidence in your ability to grow.

➡️ 5. Limiting Beliefs

Beliefs like “Success is for other people” or “I’m too old to change” can act as invisible barriers, keeping you from pursuing your full potential.

What to Do: Identify your limiting beliefs by journaling about your fears and doubts. Challenge these beliefs by finding evidence that contradicts them and adopting new, empowering ones.

You can harness the power of your subconscious!

Your subconscious mind may be powerful, but it’s not set in stone. By becoming aware of its patterns and taking steps to reprogram it, you can unlock new levels of personal growth, fulfilment. and happiness!

Awareness is the first fundamental step to personal growth! In itself awareness is creating a shift in the right direction.

Tools like RTT (Rapid Transformational Therapy), hypnotherapy, visualization, PSYCH-K®️ and other mindset techniques can make this transformation even more effective and easier to make!
