FROM OVERTHINKING TO ACTING! HOW TO STOP HOLDING YOURSELF BACK IN BUSINESS.

Have you ever found yourself stuck in a loop of overanalyzing every decision in your business?

You know what you should do, but instead of taking action, you second-guess yourself, research endlessly, or wait for the “perfect” time.

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone.

Overthinking and perfectionism both cause chronic procrastination, which is one of the biggest success killers, keeping people from making bold moves and reaching their next level.

I once heard someone say that perfectionism is just ‘pretty procrastination.’ I really resonated with this statement, but it stung a bit. I used to wear my perfectionism streak with a bit of pride!

But when I realized it was fear rather than’ high standards’ that was keeping me stuck, I knew I had to change it!

So how do you break free from this cycle and start taking action with confidence?

Here are 6 helpful points/strategies that have helped me and my clients:

1. Recognize When Overthinking is Holding You Back

Overthinking disguises itself as “being thorough” or “playing it safe,” but in reality, it keeps you stuck. Signs you’re overthinking in your business include:

  • Spending excessive time making decisions, even small ones

  • Constantly researching but not implementing

  • Worrying about what others will think

  • Feeling overwhelmed by too many options

  • Seeking perfection before taking action

If any of these resonate with you, it’s time to shift gears. Becoming aware of what is actually going on internally is the first step to change!

2. Trust Your Instincts and Take Imperfect Action

The high-achieving women I work with often struggle with trusting their gut. But the truth is, success isn’t about having a perfect plan—it’s about taking consistent action. Start embracing the idea that clarity comes from action, not from endless thinking.

Try this: Give yourself a time limit to make decisions. If you’ve been stuck on something for too long, set a timer for 10 minutes, make a choice, and move forward. Action builds momentum, and momentum creates results.

Remember 60% is good enough. If you’ve produced something and it’s fairly good, just get it out into the world. You can always tweak, improve things when you have real feedback from people but until you release your ideas so that actual people can experience them, you just won’t know!

3. Rewire the Fear of Failure

One of the biggest reasons for overthinking is fear—fear of failure, rejection, or making the wrong move. But every successful entrepreneur will tell you: mistakes are part of the journey. Instead of seeing failure as an end, reframe it as feedback.

Every action, even if it doesn’t go as planned, teaches you something valuable.

Ask yourself: What’s the worst that could happen? and What’s the best that could happen? Often, we exaggerate the risks while downplaying the rewards. Flip the script and focus on what you could gain.

4. Shift from “What If” to “What’s Next”

Overthinkers tend to get stuck in “what if” scenarios—What if I fail? What if people judge me? What if it doesn’t work? Instead, train your brain to focus on What’s next?

  • Instead of: “What if no one buys my offer?”

Try: “What’s the next small step I can take to attract my ideal clients?”

  • Instead of: “What if I post this and people don’t like it?”

Try: “What’s the next piece of content I can create to add value?”

By shifting your mindset to solutions and next steps, you keep moving forward instead of staying stuck in fear.

5. Simplify and Prioritize

Overthinking often comes from having too many ideas and choices. Simplify your approach by focusing on what truly matters.

Ask yourself:

  • What are my top 3 priorities in my business right now?

  • What action will have the biggest impact on my goals?

  • What can I let go of or delegate?

By narrowing your focus, you reduce decision fatigue and free up energy to actually execute.

6. Commit to Action Today

Now that you know how to break free from overthinking, commit to taking action today. Pick one decision you’ve been overanalyzing and make a move—whether that’s launching your offer, posting that content, or reaching out to a potential client. Progress happens when you do, not when you wait.

Remember: You don’t have to have it all figured out. You just have to start.
